Baby Cakes

So, once upon a time I did homework for 10 hours straight. Not kidding, I worked on one project for 10 hours today. And I'm still not done. I thought my prof. was kidding about it taking 20 hours.

Anyhow, my friend, Amber, and I, threw a baby shower for our friend Laura on Saturday. I got all domestic and made decorations, treats, and even her present--a diaper cake.

Won't lie, I LOVE craft time! What started as a fascination with my mom's Relief Society crafts as a child (think wood painted ornaments), grew into an obsession for good design, pretty paper, awesome typography, and ribbon. I love pretty things and when I see any of the latter in unique form, I go crazy over it and get crazy ideas, like making a cake out of diapers.

So, naturally I wanted to try making a diaper cake, right? I saw one for the first time about a year ago and figured it couldn't be that hard. It wasn't. WAY easier than I thought it would be and I got to use ribbon with ruffles on it. The unfinished cake:

For some reason, I never took a pic of the finished product.
The cake was made out of 72 diapers, 8 onesies, 6 washcloths, 6 bibs, 6 hair bows/clips, 3 receiving blankets, 2 sleepers, 2 bottles, and one yellow polka dotted infant swimming suit. I would give you a tutorial on how to do it, but that's what YouTube is for. I didn't get many great pics because I suck at remembering to take pictures, but for what it's worth I made the Martha Stewart tissue pom garlands in the background too. Laura will be a great mother and I can't wait to see that child in that darling swimming suit. Yay for babies!

Crappy pic of the decorations.

Big Fat Mexican Wedding

I came back last week from Veracruz, Mexico. While there, I attended my first Catholic/Mexican wedding, visited family I'd never met, and spent a good amount of time relaxing. The first leg of the trip I was with my mom, that was the wedding part. Garrett came later, that was the relaxing part of the trip. The whole thing was great, we got to do everything that I had planned and wanted to do, plus more.
First the wedding:
Me, Enrique, Claudia and Mom, just after the ceremony.

As part of the reception there was some bride and groom hazing performed by friends and family members... I know, wtf? My thoughts exactly.

Then a short while later, it turned into a rave-esque party, complete with balloons and glow sticks, just as everyone was getting tipsy. I also made a slew of high school buddies. My new friends were all pretty wild, in fact they were the life of the party.

Even mom danced, and she hadn't had a single drink all night.

I had a great time and the wedding party finally ended around 1 am. I went out with Claudia's daughter, Rebecca, and her high school friends. All of whom were adorable, and so drunk. For some reason they all had a hard time believing that I was 23 and graduated from college.

More pics soon...
